    In good health, but flighty

by Tanaya Hobbs on Dec 15, 2025

I ordered 3 Black-tailed White Japanese bantams. They were so cute, being the smallest of al my bantam chicks! 2/3 turned out to be rooters. They were not mean at all, but for space reasons I gave one away, so now I have 1 Japanese cockerel and 1 Japanese pullet. They are both in really good health and their feathers are beautiful! My male’s tail feathers are very long and curving! My girl’s are short but smooth and soft! In my run along with them are 6 other pullets (different bantam breeds) and 1 other cockerel (a Mille Fleur D’uccle). My two roos never have beef with each other and that makes me so happy! My Japanese cockerel is all for the ladies, always tidbitting for them. I don’t see him trying to mate very often. Both my Japanese are very flighty. I raised them the same as all my others and I’m very kind to my chickens but they always run away and once I catch them they calm down but in a cowering position as if I’m going to hurt them. ? They are almost 7 months old, now, and my little girl is still showing no signs of laying, yet. I still love them and am thankful to have them!
