Meat Producing Chickens

The Cornish Rock cross is the meat production bird. This breed is a cross between Cornish and Plymouth Rock. The Cornish Rock cross will consume two pounds of feed for each pound gained. Keep in mind that broilers/fryers are butchered at three and a half to five pounds and roasters are butchered at six to eight lbs. The quicker a bird makes the weight gain the more economical it is to raise. Other breeds that are considered meat production birds are Brahmas, Cochins, and Cornish. These breeds will take much longer to reach butcher weight. As your browsing be sure to look at our chicken processing equipment and our chicken processing books.

Be sure to set up your chicken brooder, chick feeders and chick founts so when your chicks arrive they will be warm and healthy. Check out our online chick care guide, and for more information or look at our wide selection of chicken books. Please see our page about shipping birds to learn more about how we get these great birds to you.

We are sorry, but we do not export live birds, eggs or adult birds including pigeons or doves.
