Frequently
Asked Questions
How
can you ship chicks with no food or water?
When a chick hatches, it absorbs the remnants of its egg yolk,
which provides it with nourishment for three days. This nourishment
is meant to allow the chick to stay in the nest under the hen
for several days, until the entire clutch hatches. To the chicks,
the nest or the shipping carton are little different, so they
do fine being shipped to you.

Why do I have to
buy 15 or 25 bird minimums? What if I only want a few chicks?
To keep chicks healthy in shipping, then need to be kept warm
(about 90 degrees.) By requiring 15 or 25 chick minimum shipments,
we know there will be enough chicks to maintain a comfortable
temperature in the box while they ship.
You might consider
going in on an order with friends or neighbors. Your feed store
might have a bulletin board you could advertise for co-orderers,
or check with your 4H club for other with similar interests.

Do
you hatch all those different birds?
No, while we have generations of experience with birds, we
do not raise or hatch the birds offered in our catalog. Over the
years we have put together a network of excellent breeders and
hatcheries that provide us with the stock we sell.

Shipping Birds
Shipping birds is a
fairly complex process. Our first concern is the safety and well
being of the birds. Secondly, we must meet with various regulations
set by states and national governments for the importation of
poultry. Finally, we must work within the practical and regulatory
restrictions of the US Postal Service for the carrying of this
special type of package.
Because of these factors, we do not
export birds, chicks or eggs outside of the United States.
We are not currently able to ship birds chick
and eggs to Hawaii.
Shipments to Alaska may be available, based on Zipcode, please
call us at 1-800-720-1134 to determine whether we can ship to
your Alaska address.
Generally we can ship
birds within the United States. In a few rare occasions, state
regulations restrict what we can ship to a specific state. We
try to note this wherever possible, but unlisted restrictions
may occur. We will inform you if this is the case.
Extreme weather can
temporarily limit our ability to ship birds. We will not knowingly
ship birds when they will be exposed to extreme heat or cold.
We will also arrange our shipping schedule to avoid delays caused
by weekends and holidays.
Shipping Chicks
We will
always ship out healthy day old stock via Priority Mail. They
will arrive in a specially designed box. It is the responsibility
of the post office or airlines to assure safe delivery. Be sure
to open your shipment at the post office to verify live delivery.
If necessary, file a claim promptly with the post office or airlines.
Be sure to visit our page titled "Caring
For Your New Birds" or read the shipment insert for
tips and suggestions for proper care of your chicks on arrival.
Shipping Adult Stock
Now it is possible to have mature birds shipped direct to
your hometown post office via EXPRESS MAIL service. The result
is more convenience for you. (No more trips to the airport.)
And, lower shipping charges.
However, not all birds can be shipped via Express Mail, because
there are not approved shipping containers for all birds.
Call for shipping and handling charges. Large fowl and Bantams
are available in pairs.Availability of all adult livestock
can vary with season. Extreme temperatures can also affect
our ability to ship birds to you.

hrs. of arrival of any birds that may have died. Please report
