A native bird of India, this is a stout gray bird with light,silky smooth feathers on its head and a distinctive black band passing across its eyes, circling the face and ending at a V at the throat. It has orange legs and a beak that grows so fast that it must be de-beaked often. The bird reaches maturity at 26-28 weeks and then begins laying, following mating season.
