Stromberg’s family business can be traced back to 1921, when Ernst and Josephine Stromberg received 100 White Leghorn Chicks to produce extra income on their farm in Iowa. Little did they know that this was the start of their family business, in which providing a variety of poultry breeds to their surrounding towns could grow into offering over 200 breeds and varieties of birds to the whole United States.
Their son Loyl ran the family business from the 1950’s to the 1980’s, where he also started Stromberg’s Publishing Company. His publishing company has let Loyl author and/or publish fourteen books on poultry, poultry related subjects, and multiple educational bulletins. Loyl & his wife Evelyn moved the business from Fort Dodge, Iowa to Pine River, Minnesota in 1975, with the help of their son Loy and his wife Janet.
Loy & Janet have proudly run Stromberg’s Chicks & Game Birds from the 1980’s to the present day. Stromberg’s vastly increased the amount of books & equipment they provide to a point that any beginner or expert can easily find something they need. They were joined recently by their sons Eric & Carl. Completing the fourth generation of Stromberg’s to work in the family business.
From our early days to currently, we have been proud to supply birds, supplies, and information at the same standards now as we did in the 1920’s. This all would not have been possible without our loyal customers and fantastic employees!
